Water Conservation Techniques

Water Conservation Techniques
Our water conservation initiatives help to protect water catchment areas and strengthen
water availability to various communities living near and those far water sources such as rivers
and springs. We do this by restoring degraded riverbanks and water-source areas through
native tree nurseries, planting seedlings along riparian buffers and safeguarding springs and
wetlands from grazing, fire and unsustainable harvesting. The initiative also promotes soil and
water conservation on farms using contour farming and mulching to reduce runoff and erosion
while improving infiltration and groundwater recharge. At community level, we support
simple, low-cost rainwater harvesting systems for schools and households, paired with training
on water hygiene and efficient water use. Working with village environmental committees and
local authorities, the programme maps priority water sources, supports locally agreed by-laws
and monitors water quality and dry-season flow so rivers and springs remain cleaner, more
reliable and more resilient under changing rainfall.
