Climate Action Initiatives
This initiative addresses climate change by restoring degraded forests, riverbanks and other
fragile areas through the regeneration of native trees. GHF has established community and
school-based nurseries that raise indigenous seedlings and saplings suited to local conditions,
prioritizing species that stabilize soils, protect water sources and support wildlife. The
seedlings are planted in degraded forest patches, riverine buffers and watershed catchments,
guided by simple restoration plans that identify priority sites, planting seasons and clear
survival targets. Local community groups and village environmental committees lead site
preparation, planting and follow-up care such as watering, mulching and protection from fire
and grazing. By rebuilding native vegetation cover, the initiative increases carbon storage,
reduces erosion and siltation, improves water quality and strengthens resilience to droughts
and floods while creating local green jobs and practical skills.
